List Folks,
I'm kinda interested in the '01 Bandit 1200s and was talking about it with
some other guys while on a ride yesterday. They both informed me that,
usually, Japanese bike dealerships don't offer test rides. You buy and
then you try. Is this true, or is it just a local thing? I'm just south
of San Francisco.

test rides
My experience, locally at least, is that most dealerships have
a "Demo Day" where manufacturers show up with a trailer load of bikes
for potential buyers to try. Honda is really good for this. My
local Suzuki/Kawi dealer had one of these days, and the Yammmy/Honda
guys did as well. Both places you "booked" a time slot on the bike
of your choice. Worked well, and you weren't standing around all day
fighting to get on a specific model. A great idea that worked well.
But I digress. Call the dealer(s) of your choice and ask if they
plan on having a demo day or what their test ride policy is.
Frankly, with the price of bikes today, I wouldn't buy one I hadn't
ridden first.
Cheers,
D.
