14 tooth front sprocket installation question

Post by Fred Hink » Sun Nov 05, 2000 11:10 am

Stu,   I went out to check the sprockets I have in stock and it looks to me that you may have it on right.  The chamfered side has the smaller shoulder and the larger shoulder should be on the outside.  But this goes to show that my "general guideline" is wrong.  This would put the stamped numbers on the inside.  Also looking at all my Sunstar sprockets in stock I noticed that all the numbers are on the outside of the packages and exactly at the bottom.  I wonder who gets that job before the sprockets get shrink wrapped?   Just in case anyone is wondering, Sunstar uses one sprocket to cover the models with the two little bolts and the big nut.    Fred

Fred , thank you for the prompt response! I looked at the sprocket, but my bike is all buttoned up and since it is a 99, the huge center nut and washer may be covering the numbers..?.. I can't see any numbers, the teeth are about all that is visible!  I do know for sure I put the chamfered edge of the splines towards the crank case, so if anyone has a Sunstar sprocke sitting on the bench, can you look at it and tell me if the numbers are stamped on the same side as the chamfer, or as I hope, on the opposite side. Thanks CA Stu PS If you have a manly air wrench, you don't need to flatten out the washer to remove the nut... just presto desto tricky Dicky magic show...it's off!
