Does anyone have a map or trail description for the Slick Rock Trail in Moab? Is it an appropriate trail for the KLR 650 with non-expert (but not quite beginner) rider aboard? Thanks in advance, Joe

I agree with Kurt. Don't go there with ONLY slickrock in mind. On the other hand, you can ride the first 1/4 mile or so and you'll know for sure. Maybe even the first 1/2 mile is easy, and plenty of room to turn around. You'll know...... Fred might know of one or two other suitable routes...... Go ride White Rim, it makes Slick Rock look like Puke Rock scenery and length wise, and you won't accidently run over a mountain biker, which is who Slick Rock is really for. There are so many better trails in Moab for a KLR, that it would not even be on my radar screen, although it is a "famous" trail. Sorry to hear about your crash Dale. Welcome to the infirmary. I hope my crashing was not contagious. On a more serious note, I was once told by a CHP officer that the most dangerous situations for a motorcycle rider is someone who commutes on the same route on a daily basis. The main reason is familiarity and complacency. You get so used to the same routine that when something unexpected occurs, you don't anticipate it as well, because over time, you get mentally lazy. He said it is almost inevitable that you will eventually have an accident, he has seen it too many times. He said the solution is either to take different routes, or take turns between an auto and a bike, to break up the routine. That's what the officer said, and I assume he knew what he was talking about.
