Fred, how about a detailed account of your collarbone cracking crash. I try to learn from other peoples mishaps, and since you are a very experienced rider, inquiring minds want to know. Our condolences, Fred, especially since it is now great riding in Moab! -Bill Visit the KLR650 archives at http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=klr650 Support Dual Sport News... dsneditor@... [xr650r] fred's busticated!
Well if you must make me relive the gory details..... I shoulda known better! I forgot one of my prime rules of the road/trail. Rule #1 When you haven't ridden for a while take it easy till you get your feet under you again. My story ( and I am sticking to it) goes like this. It was a perfect fall morning. I was taking a new friend I met out on one of my favorite trails, the White Wash loop. We got an early start because he needed to get back on the road to home in Iowa and I needed to get back to work in the shop. So we were fortunate to miss a big shower in Moab and headed for the trail north of town about 50 miles. It couldn't have been any nicer and I was excited to try this trail on my new fire breathing Honda 650R. We had ridden White Wash and was skirting Ruby Ranch property next to a barbed wire fence when there was a rock that you had to miss next to the fence. I squeezed next to it and crossed back onto the single track trail and was crossing a low hill. Just at the top of the hill was another rock that just clipped the back wheel as I was getting some air. I always wanted to know how those guys can throw their bikes sideways and get them to land straight in the Supercross races. Well mine went up sideways but it landed that way too. In a nano second I was face first in the dirt with my bike on top of me. I thought that was kinda funny how fast it all happened till I tried to move and YEOW!!! I knew instantly that "Houston We Have A PROBLEM!" I was lucky to have someone there to get the bike off me and help me up. I felt for any damage and when I found this new bump on my collar bone, I knew what was wrong. I got my bike started and drove it back 20 miles to the truck and the 50 miles back to Moab. Luckily I have a great girlfriend who is taking very good care of me. It still sucks to try to get dressed and cleaned up with only one good hand. I promise to not drive fast and take chances any more... Ya, right! Till next time.
