Hello: Boy, I'm just full of questions today. Okay, here's another weird one. I replaced my stock 99 KLR650 pegs with a pair of IMS Pro Pegs. Big bucks, about $90 or so from local dealer. Mounting pegs. Right peg is perfect. The peg is fine and the replacement spring to hold the peg in place is much beefier. Nice. 2 minute job. Left peg is not perfect. The peg is fine but the spring is not as beefy as the one on the right. Looks almost like the stock spring. It's puny and while it does push the peg back into place it's sort of anemic (read OEM). Call IMS. IMS says "We'll ship you out a new left spring today". Wow, great service. Two days pass. Package arrives. Open package. What's inside? You'll never guess. A little bag with Kawasaki written on it. Says "Genuine Parts" "92144-1567" "Spring, Step RE (OB). What the heck? I compare it to the left spring I already have and it's the same. Call IMS. Wait 5 minutes for the right guy. Explain situation. He says "We use what Kawasaki sends us". I explain again that I purchased IMS Pro Pegs for $90 f**king dollars and I don't want a Kawasaki OEM spring. I want one like the big burly one on the left. He shrugs. He says there's nothing he can do. I ask once again: "who makes the springs on the right, it's not at all like the OEM right spring?". He says: "Kawasaki". When I ask him why he didn't tell me that a week ago when I called to complain about the spring he just grunts. Okay, so here I am. I'm pissed. I'm guessing I have few options: 1. Fred: Do the IMS pegs you have at the shop have a big beefy spring on the right and a little stock looking spring on the right? 2. Fred: Do you know where I can get a burly left spring? 3. Anyone else out there deal with this or even notice it? Thanks for listening. Springs? You got springs with your aftermarket pegs? You don't need no stinking springs. Send those overpriced footrests back and get the $70 set. No springs included. Gravity, the motorcyclist's natural enemy, happens to be your friend in this case. Not only is it free, it's the law. Motorcycles don't run the land bare. For someone to say this is pure evidence that they don't ever get very far off the road, or off the trail either. They spend time in high-density areas and they **think** they really get "out there". The impact of motorcycles is like a drop in the ocean compared to the impact of extraction industries. People see a rutted trail and get all 'varmintal. Excuse me, but strip mines, or pollution might be a little more significant than a mark in the dirt. Environmental opposition to motorcycles is a **social issue** NOT an environmental issue. Those within the environmental movement are actually taxing the movement to forward their own silly exclusionist peeves. They are damaging the name of true environmental concern, callously trading away possible environmental strides by making enemies with a large portion of the voting public! Am I the only one who sees the idiocy in this? Why can't they enlist support from ALL forest users? What they need is a little diversity training before they throw the baby out with the bathwater. I realize you're (ZM) probably aware of this, but I get so tired of hearing that motorcycles are a significant tax on the environment. A motorcyclist who is concerned about shared lands is on equal footing with anyone who is concerned about shared lands. You can see the truth - there's no need to repeat their BS. ride-on, Tom
