[dsn_klr650] noises driving me nuts

By different pipe, what do you mean, not a stock pipe? I have thought of getting an after market pipe, but didn't know what would sound the best. Any suggestions? I don't want that high pitched raspy sound, something loud yet low pitched in tone would be best. If anything, it's sort of annoying, but doesn't seem to be a problem. My brother and friend also bought an A-14 the same time I did in February of this year and theirs are making the same noise. All three of our bikes started the whistling around 9,000 miles or so. If you find there is a problem, or the muffler can be replaced under warranty please let me know. I've since ridden another 4,000 miles, including a ride to the top of Pikes Peak in Colorado, so I assume there is no mechanical issue, only one of acoustics. > > Tim > KLR/VFR/Concours > > >Brad, > >I too have that wheezing noise. valve check = better mpg

Bum, My valve adjustment (@ 16k miles) yeilded a MUCH smoother running machine. I retorqued the cylinder head and all motor mounts at the same time. BTW, I set the valve clearances to the max Kawi specs. Shortly after buying my KLR (used), I retorqed the motor mounts and the overall vibration was reduced noticeably. Professor A9 Federal Way, WA.
