nklr - mechanical issues

Post by Rev.Chuck » Wed Sep 20, 2000 10:31 am

Refresher- The bike starts without choke, from dead cold (75F) in a turn or two, runs great for around 5~7 minutes, drops a cylinder, limps on one cylinder for another few minutes and dies. Will not restart for 15 to 20 minutes, then repeats cycle. I have been having this problem since I acquired the bike, it has never ran more than 10 minutes for me. I took the advice from the list (thank you all) and did the following: 1. I pulled the carbs and cleaned them and reset the float level to 16mm, from the 19mm and 20mm they were. 2. Re-adjusted the pilot screws to 1 turn from 1/4 and 1/2 existing. 3. Pulled tank and measured cold compression: 145# each cylinder. 4. Hooked up I/V and ran it until it died (ruled out a fuel tank delivery problem) about 10 minutes, fan came on. 4. Pulled plugs and checked, no fluffy carbon, tight black carbon though, but dry, not wet with gas. 5. Measured hot compression: 138# on left 145# on right, could be getting a bad seal on gauge, hard to tell at 180F. Not enough delta to be the issue. 6. Checked spark, sharp blue on both coils through the plug or direct short. EEEEYAWWWWWW!!! (primal yell to relieve confusion) I really want to put this on the road; it looks great and sounds awesome == Rev.
