just be sure your front tire doesn't rub a hole through that toolkit with significant compression of the front forks... fireball stu? comments? 8^) _pete -----Original Message----- From: punkynsquirt@... I just built this super tool carrier and plan to use it on a 2-3 year klr650 tour of N./S. Americas. The thing is so simple, cheap (about $20) and effective that I can hardly believe it. Went to Home Depot and bought a 20" long x 4" diameter PVC pipe, 2 red flush end caps (fit inside not outside) with expandable rubber seals and a wing nut tightener, 2 lock washers, 1 can of black glossy epoxy appliance paint and 2 - 6" stainless steel hose-type clamps. Assembly I don't think needs explaining and, using the hose-type clamps, it mounts nicely to Dual Star's highway pegs cross bar. This keeps about 10 lb. low and forward where I need it (a ton of stuff will be on the back) and is large enough to carry all the tools I want. It's sturdy as hell and waterproof. I hope somebody else can use this info. I am going to try something else different. I have 2 sets of Kawasaki's soft bags and intend to try lengthening the strap that goes over the seat with the idea of using my Rev-Pak inverted U-shape duffle bag and slinging the other set of bags fore and aft over the duffle. I think there will be room with the duffle moved back a bit to use what will be the forward bag as a back rest. I also have Kawi's tank bag (going to do the goo fix on the window) and Aerostich's large tank panniers. My 7 lb. Yorkie "Punky" will ride on my chest in a sort of papoose kind of thing that straps to my body and shoulders. I will be taking so much stuff that I am sure to be pushing the load limit of the bike, which I believe is somewhere just under 700 lbs. It is Happy Trail's highway pegs at www.happy-trail.com . It is a nice addition but I've noticed that a few listers have worked fairly large gouges in theirs presumably under compression...so be aware... Kurt

yea, i saw a picture a while back of the pvc pipe tool kit and made one for my klr. i didnt have highway pegs but i used my 18 inch tire irons attahced with zip ties thru the lower front engine mounting bracket. (even more weight low and forward) this worked great until one of the pipe clamps broke and i hit it with my back tire. the pipe cracked open and half of my tools were never seen again. i may do it again (if i ever get my bike running) and maybe use 2 pipe clamps on each side... dan __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? If you don't need the large tool holder, you can get a welding rod storage container from Lowes or Home Depot for around $7. Its about 3 inches in diameter and 18 inches long with a water tight cap. Gives you a little more room for those deep compression bumps. Harry Thames South Carolina

There are also British-made containers available on the military surplus market that hold 81mm mortar shells. These are very similar to the welding rod containers but are a bit larger, a bit heavier and a bit cheaper. Guess what I keep in one of mine? Welding rod! :) Personally, I took a .50 caliber ammo can and cut it down to about 2 inches high and bolted it down to the front frame tube. Looks and works great. -Tom '96 KLR 650
