copper canyon klr trip - okay

Post by Tom Vervaeke » Thu Sep 07, 2000 4:52 pm

Hello: I'm one of those unfortunate people who only gets 6 weeks of vacation a year (I know, I know) and my wife gets 2. So, I always have to find a way to go ride 4 weeks or so by myself. Darn... If there were folks on this list who were interested in a possible Copper Canyon Trip in the Feb, March, or April '01 timeframe I'd be glad to either: 1) Help organize, or 2) Be a member. IMHO, Copper Canyon has a rainy season in the fall. It can snow in Creel during Christmas. It's darn cold here in Colorado and all the way to Creel during January and February. I'd recommend mid-March at the earliest. A duration of 7-10 days actually over the border is fine. Any longer or shorter is too much. If interested, you would, for me, need to meet some qualifications: 1. Be an independent, resourceful, easy-going, mature person 2. Be adept at riding and wrenching your KLR 3. Be financially stable (i.e. don't borrow money) 4. Be willing to try new things, face adventure, eat weird food, etc. 5. Have fun, be mischevious, not too serious, and open-minded. 6. Once a jumping off point was determined (NM, TX, or AZ) you would need to get yourself to that point at the right time and place, etc.. with your bike in top notch shape, etc.... The amount of money one would need for 7-10 days in Mexico is approx. $500. This would cover your food, gasoline (Pemex), lodging, and, most importantly, beer money. Oh, bottled water money too. If you camped it's a lot less. But, there are dangers involved. The optimal group size would be 3-6. Any larger and it gets too unweildly to me. I'm also planning an excursion to Alaska in '01 or '02. Most likely '02 as I want to take off for 2-3 months and do it right. Just my .02, tom v. ===== ========================================================= Tom Vervaeke, Colorado, USA |Email: tom_vervaeke@...
