advice needed: valve shim time
Robb,
Mark's advice is right on the money.
Kawi specs are intake 0.004 to 0.008 inches [0.10 - 0.20 mm]
exhaust 0.006 to 0.010 inches [0.15 - 0.25 mm]
In theory, replacement shims change the clearance by 0.002".
I'm a fan of loose clearances and suggest doing all valves so
that your new settings will be:
Left Intake .007/in
Right Intake .007
Left Exhaust .009
Right Exhaust .010
KLR valve clearance tightens up over time. My KLR pulls stronger
at low to mid throttle & runs much smoother with looser settings.
I seldom run at high rpm & can only do 85 - 95 mph (indicated)
with a full load of camping gear.
