For what it's worth, there ARE mean bikers. A friend of mine played a gig at
an outdoor Harley hangout. Apparently someone had the nerve to park a
Japanese bike with the others. Some guys took the bike to where the band was
playing, got on the mic, and asked whoever owned it to identify himself.
Probably out of fear, no one stood up. One of the brave Hog riders then took
out his Zippo and they TORCHED THE BIKE. Burned it to the ground.
When I recently was selling my old Yamaha Vision 550, a Panhead rider I know
wanted me to raffle off sledgehammer swings at a get-together he throws. He
said at 5 or 10 bucks a swing, I'd make more money than if I sold it. At
the end they'd let it go down in a blaze of glory. I loved that little
scoot though, so I sold it to a good home.
I always tell these guys, if an American built bike would do the things I
want it to, for a price I can afford, I'd certainly own one. Harleys are
nice enough bikes in their own right, but they're not for me, not now. Ride
what you like, like what you ride.
