tubeless klr / silicone
Hello to all. Speaking of tubeless tires, I went to a BMW rally at Edwards Mississippi in April. Talked to a guy riding a KLR. I think his name was Roy from the mississippi gulf coast area. He had no tubes in his tires. I saw the tubeless stems in the rims so I know he was for real. He said he filled in a layer of silicone in the center of the rim where the nipples are. The way he did it was take something like a paint stir stick shape it so it fits in the center of the rim just clearing the nipples. Gob in a bunch of silicone spin the rim, spread the silicone, even over the tubeless stem clean out the whole in the stem when your done. Said it works great, he had been doing it that way for about 27,000 miles, no leaks. I have not tried this on my KLR yet, use at your own risk. Has anyone else tried this ? Bob Clinton, LA.
