Yes.

There is a small, conventional oil seal in there.
The hole also allows a leaking waterpump water seal to drain.
I get both oil and coolant leaking out of mine.

Hi,
Off the top of my head, other engine experience, it sounds like a water pump
shafr seal. Something will need to be done asap!. Could mean a new shaft,
bearings and seal.
Others with more Kawa knowledge will help I am sure.

Brian

Hi all,
I see from the archives there was some discusion about cam timing back in
'98. Well to open up an old subject I cam up with a few facts from Megacycle
anssd its raised a question.
1. We know the quoted cam duration and timing from the supplement
2. Megacycle quote stock duration as 227 and 222 lift of .345 and .355.
Has anyone measured the A model cam timing, is the manual stating Euro spec
cams?
Megacycle quote 4 different profiles, there 481-x7 having 268 duration and
.417 lift timed 27/61/61/27. Close to quoted stock but more advanced.
Their comments about this cam " Road Race performance. Must use race springs
and piston, 12:1 or more !!!!! Must use shortened guides. Guess the cams must
have fast ramps! and more lift.
Their 481-x5 cam .380 lift, 261 duration, 23/58 58/23. OK stock piston needs
R/D springs
Their mildest cam, 481-x6 .350 lift, 244 duration 14/50 50/14 Mild mid range
increase!
Cams are ground on your core so KACR should work, their picture shows cam
with it fitted. ( archive comment).
I will be in UK in November so might check out a few things there. I see the
2000 KLR is purple and green there. Wonder whats in the motor?

Brian

Question. Who does the pistons? Is the KLX KLR piston crown height the
same? Is it the same piston? I see JE and Arias do KLX pistons.
Sorry about all this, I was curiouse (notes about the cat !!!!) but might
re-cam mine sometime when needed.
