nklr - aerostich - darien vs. roadcrafter armor

Gino: Another thing which you may not appreciate is the armor removal and insertion differences between the Darien and the Roadcrafter. I have both. On the Darien jacket and pants, the armor is just velcro-ed in place and you can remove all 4 jacket armor pieces and the 2 pants pieces in about 30 seconds. The roadcrafter suits (I wear a 1 piece) is totally different and much worse in this regard. The armor pieces slip into little "pockets" built into the suit. It's a bitch to get the armor in or out without tearing the nylon pocket on the liner. I even tried the trick of putting the armor into little zip lock bags to assist insertions. Works, but a total pain. I can come home, remove the armor from the darien and get it into the washing machine is 1 minute or less. Very nice. Tom (aerostich boy) Vervaeke A13 =================================== I knew I married my wife for a reason... She got tired of me sniveling about the sheet metal characteristics of the Darien jacket and suggested (just as many of you did) that I wash it, except she suggested I throw a couple pairs of running shoes in the washer also. So that's what I did. Then I put the jacket and shoes in the dryer and set it on air (no heat) and let the shoes beat the snot out of the Darien for 1 hour. End result was a very pliable Darien that is now easy to put on and wear. Even the collar that was stiffer than Al Gore at the Democratic Convention is now easy to get a long with.
