klr engine reliability improvements

DSN'ers, I've come across scattered postings at the ListQuest archives regarding the KLR, and particularly pre 96 KLR's engine design weaknesses (accidents waiting to happen???). That is, regarding the clutch and balancer chain tensioner. I'd like to know the complete story on that. Is there any post or does anyone otherwise know the complete list of user fix-able design flaws on the KLR?? I'm not talking performance upgrades, aftermarket parts etc. I'm talking down right poor examples of engineering at the design level such as the (from what I've read) balancer chain tensioner. I'd like to do all this stuff BEFORE I put my bike back together, so I won't have to again for a long time. Mucho appreciation for any insight, Jaime.
