I've noticed a bit of this grey stuff on my ignition bits down there.
Without analysing the stuff, my guess that it is tiny bits of
ferrous metal that get attracted by magnetic fields there.
If you had a magnetic drain plug then I suspect you'd find similar
grey sludge on it.

Oil is ok, it's supposed to be there.
When you park on the sidestand, the oil will run into the stator
case.
You're only supposed to have not much oil in there when you take
off the stator case because you should have drained the sump first.
The oil also does some cooling on the stator coils.
Some bike alternators are aircooled, some are oilcooled like on
the KLR.

The only crankshaft seal is on the RHS case, in the clutch cover,
actually.
The seal allows oil pressure to be fed into the centre of the RH
half of the crank to feed the big end bearing.
The seal is a special hi-temp material ("Viton"?), made obvious
by its dark red colour.
The only way you could suspect a crank seal leak is through
an abnormally low oil pressure reading. Whatever would leak past
that seal would drain down into the sump so you'd have no
external indication.

They should be. There are no special oil jets onto the chains,
and the roller clutch certainly needs its fair share of oil.
