Correction to my last post. The dealer didn't overfill my recovery
tank with coolant. When I picked up my new bike the coolant level was
between High + low in the site window. What must have happened was I
was testing my new A15 by driving slow and slamming on the front
brakes to see how much the front end dives. I did this repeatedly at
different speeds so I could get a feel for the bike. Doing this
caused the coolant to splash out the overflow hose and get a little
on my engine. I have NO problems with the way my dealer set the bike
up.

cost of rebuilding engine - or, used from junk yard
Hello:
After reading the recent engine rebuild story (great story) from
Krgrife@... it peaked my interests in the costs involved.
Of course there are both direct costs (parts, machine shop, labor)
etc.. and also indirect (your time). I wonder if the person doing the
rebuild considered the idea of simply searching the nationwide bike
junkyards to purchase a low mileage KLR engine and just slap it in
there? Although there aren't a lot of KLR's around there MUST be
some in a junkyard of recent vintage.
I'm a part-time motorcycle roadracer using a F3. When the engine gets
tired it's usually cheaper to just go to a sport bike junkyard and
purchase a late-model (say 98) F3 motor and put my carbs and stuff on
it and push it into the bike. If you decice to have a shop rebuild your
existing motor it will generally cost the same or more, and one must
then go through the process of breaking in the new engine. A good,
very low mileage 98 F3 engine is about $1100-1400 depending on
mileage. A decent rebuild job can easily exceed this.
