Seriously, that's not true. The bottom ends are
bulletproof as in any bike nowadays. There are a couple on this list I
think that have 100k miles +/- on theirs, with some work having been done on
the top end. There is another that has 80k miles and it's 100% original,
but most will agree that's the exception to the rule. Some will argue the
95 and prior models should have their cam tensioners upgraded to the new
system, some will not. Besides, how often does an engine just completely
expire? If the rest of the bike is in good condition, and the engine
suddenly needs new piston/rings or valve work, what's the big deal? It can
happen at any mileage with any brands bike at a completely random point in
time, so you can't go worrying about it. Also depends on what you are going
to do with it. To many variables to give a nominal life expectancy.
