I'm guessing it is like the hole on water pump on cars.. an indicator hole to leak ( on purpose) when the water pump seal lets go. I am not 100% sure, but I think it is built in to the design so that the pressurized coolant has someplace to leak out, rather than straight into the crankcase. CA Stu>Q. There is a small hole (3/16") just below the coolant return line on >the right hand side of the cylinder case. What is this hole for?, and >should it be open? It does not appear to have any threads in it, but if >you put your finger over it with the engine running, it definitely >sounds different. I have looked in the manual and supplement, but can't >find any info on it. What the heck is it for?
