[dsn_klr650] ims gas tank

Post by Barry Mcpherron » Tue Aug 15, 2000 11:52 am

Kevin, I recently installed a White IMS tank on my '91 KLR (and then sold it two weeks later). Another lister who is currently off line and moving also installed an IMS tank at the same time. We compared notes and came up with the following conclusions. You are required to use the Stock KLR petcock. You will need to enlarge one hole to get the stock petcock screen to fit into the tank. They provide an extra gasket, but be sure to also use the original o-ring also for a leak tight seal. You will need to reuse most of the original tank hardware and the rubber grommets off the original tank. The IMS tank goes on easy enough but the tank shrouds don't fit quite right. You will have to modify the brackets and do some minor plastic trimming on the tank shrouds to get them to fit "perfect". The tank is somewhat lighter than the stock one, but not significantly lighter. If you want a color other than white you are probably out of luck. Jim had reported that IMS might be able to sell the green military tank (would look good on '00 and '01 models) but I never heard how he made out on this deal. It's not listed in the catalog so you would need to talk with IMS directly about this. The plastic is nice in that it doesn't dent, but is does scuff easily. Another alternative is to but a take-off metal tank from dual star in OD green. I think they are about half what you will pay for the plastic IMS tank. Barry '01 XR250R kevin johnson wrote:

Double edged sword - He is having one heck of a good time (for him I suppose). He won't be doing it long... --- Rev. Chuck :^)>+ A13 http://klr650.50megs.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On Mon, 14 Aug 2000 16:05:09 Jim Cunningham wrote:
