[dsn] fuel flood question and coolant flood mystery

Never have.  But curious.  Please furnish report.  Always looking for new roads, and I come over 108 and 4 at least once per year.

Gentle readers, 8^] I succeeded in my DIY valve adjustment, thanks to all of your good feedback and the sixteen shim kit from our pal Fred Hink. Worth the price just for the peace of mind that I will have this particular task covered for a long time. As I fired it up to warm and test run it, I noticed a gasoline odor and the bike was running very rough. Looking underneath, I saw a puddle forming from the carburetor overflow. Since I had replaced the stock fuel line with one complete with fuel filter, I undid that exchange. The fuel flood stopped. Why should a inline fuel filter cause this? Yes, the flow direction arrow was pointing to the carb. Any ideas? I fired it up again and let it run in place for five minutes while I cleaned up a bit. I came back to another puddle this time of coolant dripping from the LICENSE PLATE!! Now I am really confused! There must be a gremlin at work here. HELP! Please offer advice or an exorcism.
