Listers,
Thanks for the information regarding GPS. I went for a three day DS ride
this last weekend with two friends who also have KLR's. There were a
number of times where a GPS may have enhanced the ride. I noticed that the
rhythm of our ride was often disrupted by our inability to quickly and
easily read maps due to our eyesight difficulties brought on by "middle
age." Several times it was, "Let's just go that way!" This worked out
every time except for once when we had to backtrack 15 miles over dirt
roads that didn't go through.
I think I'll ask Santa for a GPS. Maybe she'll get me one.
Our ride was in the central Sierras, between Hwys. 108 and 50. We did
Hell's Half Acre, several roads on top of Monitor Pass, lots of dirt in the
Crystal Basin area, and many miles of single lane paved roads. Lucked out
on great cheap motels, and ate some good food, too. Total trip, starting
last Friday evening at 7:30 and ending Monday at 12:30 p.m., was just shy
of 800 miles.
My A 12 and my friends' older KLR's all performed admirably and flawlessly.
I tractored up technical dirt/rock hills and blasted down highways at
75-80. What a great bike!
