Wow sounds like a bunch of people are having the knocking noise. Here's my
two cents. I have a 93 with 9800 miles on it and I just started getting the
knocking noise in the last 100 miles. Mine had the same symptoms. It didn't
happen all the time, and never happened when the engine idled even when I
cranked the throttle. All I did was lube the chain and adjust the balancer
mechanism and so far so good. I haven't changed my sprockets or chain since
I bought the bike from the previous owner. It had 1500 miles when I got it
and that was about a year ago. One question I have is as I was tighten the
balancer bolt I notice some oil around that area. Is that something I should
ce concerned about? I also didn't have a cover for the bolt. Should I be
concerned or would it be fine w/o a cover? If needed, Fred do you have any?
Thanks,
Anton Perdices

noise and front sprocket
Karl,
Could it be a couple tight links in your chain? I had that happen to my last chain. It took a while to figure out what the noise was. I only noticed it when starting out in first gear and when going fairly slow. When I lubed the chain heavily the sound would go away for a bit but turn up again shortly. It was a sound similar to the one you describe. A new chain solved the problem. noise and front sprocket
Bingo bango to Mr. Phipps! Sprayed the crap out of my chain with WD-40 and
low and behold, no knocking noises. Leave it to me to want to rip apart my
engine only to find out it's the damned chain
Oh well, now to find out
how long I can nurse this puppy along! I promise to follow the KISS (keep
it simple stupid) theory better in the future.
Thanks!!!!!!!!
Karl

Well fixed the "killa" back Sunday. I could strighten out most
everything. That is the nice thing about a simple bike, I can work on
most anything on it. Soon as I get the parts she will look good as new
BTW, How are you guys mounting GPS on the "killa". Everything
vibrates so bad a handlebar mount does not seem the ticket. I am
thinking about getting the aerostich tank bag and mounting it there
along with a CB. Any thoughts?
