klr running hot now

Since receiving my KLR back from the ill-fated valve job it has been running hotter than before. Normally the bike would run 1/4 on the temp gauge until I hit traffic at which time it would rise and stay at or near 1/2 ( it will go higher at long red lights). Now the bike will run just below half at most times and get real &^$$#in' hot in traffic , twice I have had the temp guage hit the thick danger line. Even when riding at night it runs at half or better. Any ideas what may be causing this ? Could it be when they changed the oil the used a different weight ? I normally run castrol 20/50 would 10/40 cause a temperature change ? I would just like some guidance in trouble shooting my problem. Any help is greatly appreciated and you can reply directly to as to not clogg the digest. Thanks in advance Mike running hot Awesome A1KLR650 the fan is working

not my intention to fire the "which oil do I use" debate. I do and shall continue with castrol 20/50. Just wanted to know if a noticable engine temperature change could/would/should occur using different oil viscosity ? .

Whether intentional or not, the clutch switch is adjustable. The switch comes apart in layers. The outer two layers have oval/oblong shaped screw holes that will allow the assembly to slide from side to side. I discovered this "feature" after exchanging energy with a cherry tree. To solve the problem you can loosen the screws and slide the switch layers from side to side until proper function is achieved. The inner construction of the switch is remarkably frail and it's no surprise that it easily malfunctions. Note: if you take the whole switch apart, be careful of the moving contact....it is spring loaded and may become an irretrievable projectile. Good luck, Ken Trull A14 Greenbough AL
