[dsn_klr650] broke down on side of road

Sure sounds like a vacuum to petcock problem, you should check that out.  Petcock needs vacuum to flow fuel, a kink in the vacuum line will make the bike run lean and stall, just like you describe.  Good luck.

Until today.  I was riding along and when I pulled in the clutch all of a sudden the idle got faster.  Tried reving it to get it to kick down but no luck.  Then I pushed the choke over and back and I came down to normal.  Actually lower then normal idle.  Then it spit and sputtered till I got up to speed and seemed OK.  I was crusing along an then it died and there I was on the side of the road.  Tried restarting and it cranked over but no start.  Gas was fine, tried in res just to be sure , still nothing.  Waited a few and with a combination of choke and throttle got it to run.  It was running fast like it did earlier.  Managed to get it home on the fast idle.  WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON WITH MY NEW (used) BIKE?  As a side note.  I've had a backfiring problem when I decelerate since I got it.  Ran good except for the backfiring until today.  There doesn't seem to be any exhaust leaks at the header.  I took off the gas line at the tank with the lever to on and no gas comes out.  Is this normal? I did however turn it over with the gas line off and gas flows freely while it is cranking.  Any help for a new KLR owner slightly disappointed.  Barry A7 Visit the KLR650 archives at http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=klr650 Support Dual Sport News... dsneditor@... Then I pushed the SNIP Barry, an air leak at the carb will cause fast idle.....check bolts holding carb to head. A mechanic told me how to check for this condition but I don't remember it all (list?).... he said to spray WD 40 on carb with engine running and I think he said it would speed up idle if it made its way into intake. An air leak will also cause the bike to backfire. If the bike has been sitting for some time with gas in the carb you may want to tear it down for inspection and cleaning. A sticking float may be causing some of your problems. But start with the easiest stuff first...good flow of fuel from petcock, condition of hoses, drain float bowl, etc., etc. Good luck, Joe Alberth A13

[dsn_klr650] irc gp-110 tires

i've only used the rear gp110. it's a fine tire for klr use, although i took mine off after i got back from moab because i wanted to try something knobbier. currently i have kenda k270's on, which are pretty good in the dirt, and only suck a little on road. soon (i hope) i'm just going to get a lightweight bike for more serious dirt riding, then i'll go back to gp110's or similar tires for the klr. mw
