nklr western us route suggestions?

Post by D.J. Rogers » Thu Jul 20, 2000 6:42 pm

G'Day. I'm a week away from heading south from sunny British Columbia to Utah and I'm looking for suggestions of things to see or interesting routes. The plan is to go down to Moab via WA, OR, and the Bonneville Salt Flats (always wanted to go there). After a few days of exploring Arches, I'm heading north to Alberta via ID, then home to Vancouver Island through Canada. Other than this, my only other wants are "Going to the Sun" in Glacier and maybe part of the KVR in BC. I figure I'll tap Fred and Tim for local knowledge(and maybe parts)when I'm in their areas. Anyone with any other ideas? Tanx. D. GBG eh14

D.J., 1. WA. - Mt Rainier National Park 2. WA. - Hurricance Ridge on the Olympic Peninsula 3. WA. - Mt. St. Helens National Monument 4. OR. - Columbia River Gorge, between Hood River & Troutdale (ride on the Oregon side on the secondary road that parallels I-84) 5. OR. - Crater Lake National Park (in southern Oregon) 6. CA. - Muir Woods (giant redwood trees) 7. ID. - Teton & Yellowstone National Parks (actually in Wyoming near the Idaho border) Seattle to Moab via I-90 to I-84 may have moderate to severe cross winds for 100's of miles. Maybe someone can suggest a better route. You may want to buy an annual national parks pass ($50 USD) depending on how many parks you'll be seeing. It may be less expensive than paying for individual park passes. Be sure to pick up Idaho's state parks brochure & related travel info, they sure know how to do things right.
