[dsn_klr650] nklr beer

Post by billmonahan » Thu Jul 13, 2000 9:54 am

I don't think any beer (including the Irish ones) taste as good as a good quality California or Oregon microbrew.  And some from Colorado aren't too bad either.  I haven't had anything from Australia that really tastes good, although it is sure not lacking in alcohol content.

[dsn_klr650] nklr beer

And do you know why Corona was originally brewed? To be a cheap thirst quencher for Mexican laborers during the work day. It was better than the water, as it was processed, filtered and pasteurized. It had a low alcohol content so workers could drink quite a bit of it without getting drunk. It isn't the same as it was a long time ago, as us import frenzied Americans wanted anything foreign to drink. They have since upped the alcohol content and probably made it taste worse than it did before. I still can't bring myself to quench my thirst with it. I still don't know why it was cheaper than bottled water, but it was, perhaps govt. subsidized or something. Not the case anymore. laterZ Dash At 07:30 AM 7/13/2000 -0700, billmonahan wrote:

this is a tough one. beer seems to be best the closer you are to the source. since we live in norcal, we naturally gravitate towards sierra nevada (as our generic and dependable beer) and boont and lagunitas and so forth. i was fortunate enough to live in augsburg, bavaria for 6 years, and i can tell you, the beer there is gosh darn good, and also cheap. when you buy it here, it's still good, but not as good as there. likewise for english and irish brews. few things can compare to a pint of guiness or a good english bitter straight from the tap in a small pub over there. but then few things can compare to a pint of Bear Republic (Healdsburg, ca) Racer5 ale either. bottom line... think globally, drink locally!   by the way, there are a few decent aussie beers imported, but they don't come in cans and they don't advertise on tv. i like the old australian stout you can get at trader joes.   mark weaver (currently working on consuming 20 galons of homebrewed hefeweizen)
