big cee shark fin

Post by Chris Krok » Thu Jul 13, 2000 10:12 am

Attachments :OK, folks, here it is: I finally finished my shark fin. Well, I actually finished it a few weeks ago, but then had to wait for pictures, and then had problems with FTP so I couldn't put them on my site! But I'm victorious at last. It's milled out of 3/8" thick 6061 aluminum plate. It mounts via the two M6 holes that exist in the axle carrier, and has a reinforcing block for extra support. That's the block with three holes (it attaches with three M5 screws), snugged up against the bottom of the axle carrier. The top of this block is beveled to match the angle of the carrier, so it snugs up nice and tight. I also have an additional M5 screw at the top of the fin, that screws into a hole I drilled and tapped in the carrier. I've put about 150 offroad miles on mine, and unfortunately haven't scratched it up much! But I'll keep on trying. There are more detailed pictures showing the mounting on my web page, at http://www.galcit.caltech.edu/~stingray/sharkfin.html There is also information there on how you can get your very own Big Cee fin... Anyway, let me know what you think! (About the shark fin, that is. But, if you have something you really want to get off of your chest...) Chris -- Dr. J.
