Ralph, I've owned 3 Sear's compressors. And all worked forever without a problem. Sears is always having a sale so wait for one. I change the oil once a year and drain the tanks about 3 times a year. I also glued a small magnet onto the oil drain plugs. Air tools are a great addition. Don't know anything about the "pancake" models. My "newest" compressor is about 25 years old so there may be better ones out there.
