[dsn_klr650] help? knocking sound.

Post by Rob MacLeod » Wed Jul 05, 2000 3:23 pm

Jim, This is not intended to be funny, this is quite serious--have you considered that the noise may be your chin strap flapping in the wind or perhaps your jacket collar etc.? What you describe is very likely manifested from air flow (i.e. leaning over tank you cannot hear the sound, but sitting upright you can, it only happens at 50 mph, you cannot reproduce the sound with the bike stationary etc.), so check anything that may 'flap' in the air at speed. This is the exact cause of a knocking I had. It stopped when I ziped the collar of me jacket up all the way. I would still be looking for the sound if a friend hadnt asked if the collar slapping me hurt. crazydave _______________________________________________________ Say Bye to Slow Internet! http://www.home.com/xinbox/signup.html

I had a snap on a visor pop loose and heard that engine is going to blow up sound. A KLR would never let go of a rod with that few miles on it. Harry Thames South Carolina

My shirt collar has caused this beating against my helmet a speed. It is amazing how loud a little flap of cloth can be hitting your helmet. Alan Henderson A13 Iowa

no offense intended, but have you checked to be sure your chain isn't too tight? a little loose is better than a little tight (chains, folks). _pete

No offense taken. But let me assure all of you that I have gone over and over all things chain and sprocket related. I have gotten a ruler out and set the slack to exactly 2.2 inches. I also made it tighter just to see if that affected anything, which it did not. -----Original Message----- From: Peter Dahlheimer, MD [mailto:Peter_Dahlheimer@...] Sent: Thursday, July 06, 2000 6:03 AM To: KLR650 List Subject: RE: [DSN_klr650] Help? Seattle VME meeting KLR, are you on the list? (nklr?) Yep, looks like Dante's is just down Roosevelt. Haven't been there myself, but I found it on Expedia.

(nklr?) Teddy's is at 65th and Roosevelt, bikes start rolling up around 5, main show is between 6 and 7. Here's the VME web site:
Is that near Dante's Steak and Grog and Giggles?   Jeff
