voltage regulator relocation

My SS brakelines and new sprocket have not arrived at the shop, so I'm not down there having them installed today. It also means that I have to go ahead and brave relocating my voltage regulator myself. (I trust myself with electrical work but not mechanical.) Two questions: 1) Any sage advice on where to move the regulator? (For those of you who missed our previous episode, I need to move the regulator because I have the strap of a set of Ortlieb dry bags running under the seat and over the regulator. I've been advised that this might not be wise.) I'm hoping to just move it up or down a bit in the space under the seat. 2) If I need to extend the wiring, what gauge wire do I need to use?
