don't forget about his air turbulence modification. he fastened some small
aluminum air foils on either side of the fairing, horizontally, below the
windshield. he found they greatly improved the characteristics of airflow
around his head with the tall windshield in place.

yep, he stopped over at Fred's too...if he would have stayed his bike
would
have won the rat bike award for sure...as it was Mike Sonzini won it
primarily because he had a pair of deer fur hanging out of his helmet
after
the nocturnal collision....
BTW, the windshield was a Rifle...

To Anybody Concerned or Interested: That elderly gentleman you all ran into
on that ragged KLR is John Lyle from Lena, Mississippi. John is a former
President of the BMW Riders of Mississippi Club. He takes an awful lot of
ribbing about that KLR since most of his friends ride BMW's. John also has a
BMW or two at home, but he favors the KLR for long trips because of it's
versatility and high mileage capability without refueling too often.
John is on his third trip to Alaska that I know of. He tends to ride alone
mostly because few people can maintain his pace and even fewer can stand the
rigors of pitching a tent day after day on long trips. He also favors
making side trips to see the sights that most of us don't even know exist. I
don't think he has ever stayed in a motel. He prefers pitching his tent which
he has down to a fine art. He can get up , get dressed, and pack his gear and
load his bike before most of us can get our boots on.
For personal entertainment he fires his ultralight airplane up and flies at
treetop level in rural Mississippi. He has a million stories to tell if you
can get him in the mood. I have a couple I can tell on him also.
John recently completed a grueling battle with colon cancer which he refused
to let whip him. I doubt there is anything that can get the best of him. He
absolutely refused to let cancer take him down before he gets his fill of
motorcycle riding. Besides, there are a few places he still hasn't seen in
this world, and he ain't going to kick the bucket until he has seen them.

John is unique, and a friend to all who know him. He doesn't care what
kind of motorcycle you ride, as long as you ride. He may seem eccentric at
first, but he is really a class act.
BTW: As I recall, that sign on his windshield actually said something like
this: "Don't Mess With My Bug Collection". :~)
