I'd say he was a pretty nice guy, with the warning and all. Wouldn't matter too much to me what he said, they're just words. So, he doesn't deserve "di@&" as a label, really. ps. I've been pulled over 8 times by CHP since 91 (last ticket-I was on a Harley, May 91, and doing about 91 mph) and haven't been written up one time. I have been riding the KLR for a year and a couple of months now. Before that I rode a GSX R750. Rarely did I ride like an adult, Wheelies, weaving, lane splitting. In the last month or so I have been taking it easy, (new father), riding like my bike is a vespa scooter. I have been berated by the police for things like standing on the pegs, (I thought he was going to impound my bike) and passing parked cars. I guess it will be back to riding like a jerk just to stay out of trouble. Biker Mike (back on one wheel) (on the sidewalk);)

I had a CHP officer pull me over one morning on the way to work. When he walked up to me he said I was riding my Harley like a 16 year old squid on a sport bike..... Gee, thanks officer (I'm 45) - Got the ticket - He wasn't impressed.

Yea. Like I said, I thought he was going to impound it. He said it was careless driving. I was looking over one of those wonderful SUVs trying to decide which route to take around a minor accident. This was in city traffic that was moving at about 5 to 10 mph. I couldn't figure out why he was pointing at me wanting me to stop. When he started yelling I was thinking to myself did I just do a wheelie unconsciously or something. He was busy with the accident so I just said yessir and kept going. I don't think careless driving, an offence which generally has criminal connotations, would stick in your case as there must be some element of disregard for the safety of other road users, and frankly, standing on your pegs at 10 mph just does not seem careless in this sense. However, most Motor Vehicle Acts I have seen state that a motorcycle operator must be "seated in the operator's position." Therefore, at worst you would face the usual moving violation penalty for your jurisdiction. Rob (free legal opinions are worth what you pay)

Dale, If you were, in fact, riding your motorcycle on the double yellow line between the regular flow of traffic and the carpool lane, I wish the cop had dinged you $271 for each and every time your vehicle crossed the line. Part of the reason I like to ride my bike in the carpool lane is that the cars won't cross the double yellow and hit me. Well, not as much. If you insist that you're above the law of the road, then the cars aren't going to respect it either, and there'll be no point to the very pretty paint job on the freeways around here.
