klr high mileage worries, rear wheel alignment

I am constantly amazed at the KLR's mileage. Though not a big guy (170 lbs.) I constantly flog the little scoot, enough to have melted the OEM rear tire in the first 1500 miles. Gassed up this morning, 53 mpg. Mileage stays the same whether I putt or scream it. Pete the Gas-Sippin' Streak

I usually fill up after 200 miles, and never hit reserve. Usually only takes 4 gal to fill up. The big tank holds alot of gas on the right side that is hard to get to, without Skips fuel tank mod. I havent done it myself yet. It has been my experience that you should get at least another 50 miles on reserve, and then there is some more gas stored in the right hand lobe of the gas tank, so you tip the bike over to the left to get a little more range (I've never gone over 10 miles at this point, searching desperately for a gas station.) Jeez, I am just about ready to buy an A9/2600 miles. Is this problem statistically significant or is it random? BTW, I just read an article on how to align the rear wheel to the front wheel to prevent crabwalking. I can scan it and put it in the "files" folder if anyone is interested. Take Care, Brad
