With all do respect to Mr. Eldon, if it ain`t broke, don`t fix it. I know this may sound funny coming from me of all people, but if the bike is running well with no reason to suspect anything, I`d leave well enough alone. Mine is just short of that and I`ve got a lot to go this summer, with a dinged radiator to boot. Skip

I'm trying hard to not get into soap box mode here but I do regard this as a serious rider safety matter. I was very lucky, I was going slow and in a straight line when my motor locked up. Kurt G.

I respect your thoughts and can apreciate what happened, but I personally have gotten tired of tearing my bike down before every long trip. Now if you mean just a good evening of going over the bike and looking at resonably accessable areas, I do that, but then again, I do a very thorough strip down and fix every winter when I can`t ride anyway, and that should be good enough for the season, for me. My feeling is, whatever works for you, just don`t neglect the bike. Skip

I`m sorry, I misunderstood, but while I agree with you somewhat in theory, I`m personally going to wait and see what happens. I`ve seen and heard of too many high mileage pre-96 KLR`s to go so far as to start replacing parts in my engine yet. I do have an A9, and when I had my covers off in Feb., everything was still looking good, with over 30K miles so far. I also borescoped my cylinder and lower case, and there is no excessive wear that I can detect. I don`t blame you though. I`m sure Eldon is correct in his evaluation of the pre-96 engine, I`m just curious to see how many miles I can get without major work. Skip
