[dsn_klr650] filterskins (was bruning oil
Mark,
Forgive me, actually the proper term for the item we are discussing is
'Filterskins'.
They come 3 to a pack for about $15. From the package:
'Filterskins are an extremely thin but durable air filter cover.
While allowing maximum air flow, an 'oiled' Filterskin will catch
90per cent of the dirt that tries to pass through the
air filter.' They say to 'Saturate' the filterskin with 'suitable air
filter oil...squeeze out the excesss....Stretch.....over a clean,
oiled air filter.' Then, when needed, '....replace with a clean one.'
They are washable with soapy water and reuseable.
They say, you only have to clean your air filter after every 3rd
use of a filter skin.
I intend to use these in an effort to approach the old
multi layered different density foam air filters of the past,
whose intention it was to catch as much of the different
sized particles of debris that pass through the air filter
as possible. I hope to prevent as much debris as
realistically possible from passing to the rings,
and will likely clean the air filter with every one
or two uses of the skins. This is because of how
quickly I've seen rings wear and blowby begin as
a result of air filter inattention.
