[dsn_klr650] rear wheel noise, new sprocket
Hello All!
First, I must apologize for not researching this in the archives first. My
ISP at home is down and I can't get to e-groups at work.
I just set up the extra rims on saturday with a Kenda 270 up front and a
Cheng Shin in back. Used the old 43T rear sprocket and all other hardware is
new including bearings. Also used a new 14T front sprocket. I adjusted the
chain with my roommate who is about my size sitting on the bike. I figured
since it is for mild street and mostly dirt, a bit looser is better so I set
it at 24mm loaded. The bike just rolled 4K miles so I used the original
chain. New chain is coming.
It runs great and has LOTS more torque and revs 4000 at 50 mph. Great in the
little bit of dirt I could find. My question is that the rear wheel seems
very noisy below 5 mph and coasting. Seems to go away with mild braking or
power. Above 5 mph there is no noise.
Sounds like I need to tighten the chain a bit? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jim Jackson II

Make sure the knobs are not brushing lightly against the inside of
the chain guard.

That's basically how tail lights on Harleys are. I'd make a clear
epoxy window in the bottom of the tail light. Fortunately, the
vehicle inspectors haven't busted my balls about the lack of
illumination on my plate.
