I have just ridden to the Post TT race meeting at Mallory Park in the UK. It
is a great little circuit with good views. Much of the way is 70 mph
twisties and compared to my 1997 DR650 (now stolen) on which I journeyed
last year, the 98 KLR650C handles like a jelly!! The DR had standard
suspension, but I had put on 17" rims, if anything that would have made any
probs with the suspension more apparent....but it felt much more settled in
corners, and seemed to have a livlier motor. Interestingly the DR had more
ground clearance than the KLR even after putting on the 17 " rims (I use the
same stand to get both wheels off the ground). Why is it that the DR is not
seen to be a better bike in the US, especially as big tanks seem available.
I like the KLR but I suppose it is a generation older than the DR. In the
UK the DR is now cheaper as it is an unofficial import only, I am attracted
by it's lightness, modern suspension, better brakes etc. Until today I was
going to supermoto gthe KLR,and put on a pipe and jet kit.
Help me love it again.
