A little advice: Be prepared to head for the door if you don't get the deal you want. I live in Canada, so I'll leave the price part to those in the USA (FYI, Y2K KLR is about $6100 Canadian). I did the research and decided what accessories I wanted (SS front brake line, taller windscreen, Kawi soft luggage), got a fair price including taxes, setup ($295)in mind, and went in to the dealership with it. I headed for the door 3 times before we agreed on the price. It was within $150 of what I wanted to pay, with all the stuff I wanted. I got "out the door" for less than the retail price of the bike, taxes and prep. Shop around, carry your checkbook for a deposit, let them know that you'll make the deal if they are willing, and play fair. They have to make a living too, and I think that you'll get further with them if you're upfront, but not too demanding. And like I said, be prepared to walk out the door if you don't get what you feel is a good deal. Leave them your number, though, in case the change their minds. Good hunting, D. A14 GBG

well, if you're in the bay area, dual sports of any kind, but especially klr's, are pretty hard to find right now. both my local dealers are out, and would love to have one in stock cuz they could sell it tomorrow. i think the mfrs overproduced all those ugly cruisers, and underproduces bikes that don't suck. if you can get it for $5200 or so out the door (from a dealer you can stand), that wouldn't be bad up here. probably a couple hundred cheaper in fresno or somewhere else hellish. mw

$4600 tax and tags in Alamogordo, NM. I had to wait for more than a month for them to get it in, ut I got it for that low, low, price. I asked if they charged for shipping/set-up and they said no, it was their cost, not mine. A note aout the shipping/set-up. A dealer the next town across wanted $200 more to START with, then they wanted another $200 for the shipping/set-up. A dealer in El Paso, TX (when I mentioned this fee) said in a startled tone, "I think that's illegal!". Chris Astier Y2KLR

Tim makes highway bars for the KLR that work pretty good as a crankcase protector. They have saved mine before. He also makes radiator guards you might be interested in.
