timing advance???

Post by David Kleber » Thu May 04, 2000 7:15 pm

On the left side of the bike, there is a plastic cover just forward and below the battery. If you look at the petcock, it is to the right just below where the tank meets the seat. It's held on with one screw. I removed the cover to expose some electrical components. One has a rocker with what appears to be a hole for a cable, but there was no cable attached. What the heck is this? The best guess I could come up with was a timing advance???

chuckle away

Thought I would give the listers a little time to chuckle and smirk at the dumb and dumber that I pulled today. I've been working on installing the Supertrapp IDS2 exhaust to my bike. Well, little things have been going wrong. Things like incorrect instructions, excessive gap between the "S-bend" pipe and the exhaust can opening, etc. Now today I came up with a doozy. I was attempting to install my disc stack when I discovered that one of the mounting holes in the core was not threaded properly. It would not accept the mounting screw without excessive force. So, thinking that I was mechanically inclined, I used one of the extra screws supplied for really long disk stacks and some metal cutting oil and attempted to "self" tap the hole. I figured that since it would accept the screw initially, that it only needed "cleaning" out. Wrong, dead wrong. After several trips in and out of the hole with the spare screw, I thought I was making progress, the fastener on the back side broke off. Now I have a screw just dangling there, and I am unable to remove it. Whoa, what a Murphy. Well, now I have to contact Supertrapp and see if they'll replace it or fix it, should have done that in the first place. Dumb.....dumb.......dumb........ Hope my experience helps someone else from pulling the same boner. Anyone have any experience with the Cobra ISDE exhaust? Good, bad, indifferent. Have a good laugh on me and crack a mile wide grin.
