Dan, I'm going strictly by the manual (600) here 'cause I really don't know
anything about it, but it shows that, after you pull off the sprocket gear,
there is an O-ring and an "output shaft collar" with an oil groove in it
around the shaft spline. Perhaps the oil ring got pinched or fryed by high
temps, but that's just a guess. If you've cleaned around the area and
definitely located the leak to the shaft area, you could consider having the
right O-ring handy and removing the sprocket and having a closer look. Its
section 4-15 if you have the manual, if not, and you need it, I could send
you the procedure. I think the bearing itself is pressed into the case. Maybe
if the sprocket is off you could rotate the bearing and feel if the races are
damaged (hopefully not). Good luck.--Charles
