I just completed the valve check on my 2000 KLR and found everything
to be within spec. Thanks to the list for suplementing the Kawasaki
service manual. I found the intake to be at .102 mm , which is kind
of close to the bottom end of the limit. My dealer told me to wait to
do an adjustment. Also the manual puts the torque for the vavle cover
at 7ft/lb, I went with Carl's torque specs, I figure I can retighten
bolts easier that rethreading heads. Any thoughts on the torque?
Twigg cycles in Hagerstown Maryland has been very supportive of me
doing my own service. After doing the valve check and being past the
point in breakin where I could rev past 4K I decided to hit the
trails. Picked up a bunch of 1/2 inch thorns in the process. I
developed a slow leak from this. Pulled all the thorns and pumped
the tire back up and now it holds air??? I guess the preasure of the
tube pressed on the tire is sealing the leak. I got a can of Fix-A-
Flat but the label says do not use on Motorcycles. What are the
thoughts on tire slime as opposed to pulling the tire and finding the
leak. I would rather ride today than fix a flat.
