"Just wondering if any of you has had some experience with the Bieffe
3 sport helmet. My Shoei is about to fade off into helmet's heaven
and I'm looking for a substitute. I'd like to know how the windshield
works, does it keep the rain out? how about fogging? I see no vents
in the pictures, is it too hot in the summer? comfort, noise, etc."
Juan,
I just purchased a Bieffe 3 sport helmet 3 days ago. I haven't had it
long enough to give you a real "field test" but I would be happy to
share my first impressions and reasons for trying it with you. Being
a
long time dirt rider, only recently taken to street riding, I really
missed having a sun visor on my full face helmet (KBC TK-7) and I
refuse to ride on the road without a full face helmet for safety and
comfort reasons. The idea of having a full face shield AND a sun
visor
was too cool to pass up. So here's what I think so far:
Good points:
1) Is very light weight
2) Has a much larger field of vision. The face opening is both much
taller and wider than a normal "street" helmet.
3) Very attractive styling (I think)
4) Relatively inexpensive
5) The face shield and visor combo really works!
Negatives:
1) Watch the sizing if you can't try one on before buying (I bought
mine on-line) Bieffe seems to size LARGE. I recommend buying a full
size smaller than what you currently have.
2) You'll be disapionted in the quality of workmanship if you are
comparing to Arai or Shoei, etc. I wouldn't call it bad it is just
not
as "polished and plush" as even some of the mid priced helmets.
3) The face shield seems especially thin and fragile. I don't think
it
could take much of an impact.
4) The opening around the neck is fairly large and lets in more wind
than my other helmets have. But I plan on fixing that by installing
one of those aftermarket wind collars around the base.
Other observations:
1) I live in Oregon so I had an opportunity to test it's rain
worthiness just yesterday! It was perfectly dry and comfortable.
2) It does have an air vent in the front of the chin guard but none
at
the forhead area.
3) Both of the sun visors are vented and I encounted NO noticable
increase in wind drag or lift (even at 70+ mph) over my unvisored
helmet
4) The face shield fogs like crazy!! Install a "Fog City" insert and
the problem will be permenantly solved.
Hope you find this helpful.
