Had a great ride today, my first real ride of the season. Put about 300
kms on the beast. Good balance of pavement, gravel roads, abandoned rail
and the best part was it was dry enough already to really get a nice ride in
what is normally a MX only forest. There was some newly cut singletrack
that was both a blast and a workout. Got stuck a bunch of times trying to
climb loose sand hills. And you know it's tight when you've gotta slip the
clutch in 1st more than having the clutch all the way out! I've never
worked myself on the KLR so hard but I had an absolute blast! Tired but
satisfied at the same time.
Early on my ride I was having a rest after climbing a troublesome hill,
and I noticed a slight oil leak on the left side engine, where it has the
big plastic slotted thing covering the big bolt you have to turn to line up
the cams. There was just enough to be moist and blow back in the wind, to
just about the edge of the case. That was it. It seemed to fix itself.
More of a burp than a leak. When I got home I cleaned the oil seal itself
and the area at the opening and hopefully that'll be the last of it. The
cap WAS tight but the seal was dusty. Has this ever happened on anyone
elses machine?
