Cadintosh suggestions

Post by Roy Lewis » Fri Jan 02, 2015 8:53 pm

Thorsten,

Thank you for Cadintosh and Graphic Converter. Both have been very helpful. I have had several thoughts regarding features in Cadintosh, some of which may be practical, others not.

Tiffs and jpegs:
It would be very helpful to be able to move, scale, and rotate images like any other element.

Ellipses:
It would be helpful if ellipses could be modified the same as other elements. I would especially like to use the ellipse as a cutting edge and to be able to trim the ellipse.

Lines:
Might the parallel line and parallel line tangent to a curve be combined by using the shift key or option key as a modifier to toggle between commands. I often switch between modes, and this would save many keystrokes.

Modification commands:
Sometimes I want to move a small element a large distance. It is awkward to zoom in to click on the original point, zoom out to navigate to the new point, zoom in to click, then double zoom again to select the object. Could the object be selected first, with or without a modifier key toggle?

Basic Apple Commands:
Simple cut, paste, and copy functions would be helpful. especially as a means to transfer objects from layer to layer or between documents. Paste-in-place would be helpful as well.

A modifier key toggle between Freehand Mode, Intersection Mode, and Middle/End Mode would speed things up.

Either a window selection or paint bucket selection for hatching would be nice.

Thanks, again,
Roy Lewis

Hear, hear! I first raised the inconsistency of the ellipse tool with Thorsten on 18 August 2003 and have been hoping ever since that it might be made to behave like the circle and arc tools do for trimming, and for delimiting areas for hatching etc. It’s also annoying that starting and ending angles for elliptical arcs cannot be defined correctly. (Try creating circular & elliptical arcs subtending the same angles from the same centre to see what I mean.)

Oooh! One I can actually help with!
A modifier key toggle between Freehand Mode, Intersection Mode, and Middle/End Mode would speed things up.

Command 1, 2, 3 and 4 does the trick!al

Dear Rowland,
the procedure hereby attached could help you to draw elliptical arcs "correctly defined", that is elliptical arcs that you can trim and hatch (the following instructions make reference to CADintosh v.7.6, but I believe that they are working with the following versions as well):
1/ draw an ellipse using the command “ellipse” and, as usual, setup (a) the coordinates for the centre, (b) the lenghts of the diameters, (c) the initial and end angles (for a full ellipse: 0°÷360°):
2/ select the command “convert edge in X-line”  and click on the ellipse with the mouse to select it:3/ type return  and you obtain a "X-line ellipse", as you can see in the detail here below:4/ if you need to hatch your ellipse select the “hatch” command  and click on any X red point of your ellipse, otherwise skip and go to the next instruction:
5/ select the command “expand X-line”  and you obtain a "normal line ellipse", made by a certain number of segments:6/ if you need to trim your ellipse … it’s so easy that you don’t need my help.
That’s it … seeing is believing!
Anyway I hope that in the next future a similar procedure can be reduced by Thorsten in an appropriate command.
In friendship.

Thanks for the tip, Alessandro. It will help in a pinch, but it would still be nice to manipulate the ellipse directly, and not wind up with dozens of little snippets.Roy
