Hi,
I'm new here , so be gentle.
I'm trying to do a simple schematic, for documentation only.
I am able to place symbols but when I try to move, align them I cannot select anything, There seems to be no X cursor.
As near as I can tell the manual doesn't address this scenario.
I have deleted all the preferences.
Help would be appreciated.
P.S. The two available symbol libraries (Electronics and Misc) don't have an inductor. Are there other libraries available?

Robert - you can move symbols after placing them in the same way as
any other drawing element.

Not sure what you mean by "no X cursor". I know I found it difficult
to adjust to the CAD way of doing things after many years of MacDraw,
where you can just click and drag things to move them around.

The move tools have several different ways to move items. Defining
the X & Y distances is good if you already have the object positioned
at known co-ordinates. I often use the other way, using drawing
locations as references for the move, when I want to align a symbol
with already-drawn objects (perhaps followed by an X-Y move to offset
it a known distance).

Of course it saves time if you can place the symbol where it's needed
in the first place, but you may need to change the location selection
mode (use the tab key) to get the right effect.

I've uploaded 2 files to the group file area. This is a library of
circuit element symbols (made while doing an electrical circuit for
an aircraft), together with the source file for it. There's also a
screengrab of how I used the library elements. Look in the Rowland
Carson folder.

Robert - you can move symbols after placing them in the same way as
any other drawing element.

That's the problem, with the hand cursor selected, I am not able to select any part of the drawing.

Robert - sorry, I had completely forgotten the hand tool! Yes, it
should allow you to grab and drag objects in the usual Mac style.
However, it isn't the way to position objects accurately, which I
guess is why I've almost never used it.

But - I don't see why it won't work for you - it's OK on my system.

You didn't say what version of Mac OS and what version of CADintosh
you are using. That might help Throsten diagnose why you can't get it
to work. For instance, I am using CADintosh V6.1.1 X on Mac OS X
10.4.11, on a Ti PowerBook G4 1GHz with 1GB RAM.

Going back to the original issue, for accurate positioning, use the
"Transform" tools, further up the tools palette (see section 3.7 of
the user guide).

Haven't seen that. I get the standard Mac pointer cursor when I
choose the hand tool.

Oh! That's my own website and indeed it doesn't have such a folder. I
put the files in the Yahoo! group files folder.

Point your browser at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/

and click on the "sign in" link. (Obviously you have a Yahoo! account
to be able to have joined this group) Once signed in, you should be
able to see a link to "My groups". Click on that link and you should
see a link to the CADintosh group. Click on that to go to the home
page for the group. At the left you should see a link to "files".
Click on that to see a list of the files and folders that have been
uploaded.

Hope this gets you on the right track.

Oops,

I did forget to put the OS in, Mac OS X
OS 10.6.2, on a iMAC 2GHz intel Core Duo with 2GB RAM.
AND
OS 10.6.2, on a MacBookPro 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM.

The CADintosh version (6.1.1) has always been in the subject line.

This happens to me too, regularly. My workaround is to select something else first, say, a line or a dimension number or something. After I do that I can usually select and move the symbol. I got stuck for a very long time in the tutorial on this point. I don't think I was doing anything wrong.

My problem;
I was trying to use macintosh style commands. I think, I memory serves, the procedures are similar to AutoCAD. Bottom line pay attention to the text at the bottom of the screen and follow it.
Like Eileen says it helps to select something else then return to the command, this seems to break the chain.
