Thorsten - thanks for offering the chance to test the lastest release.

I find that when opening a file created under earlier versions, the
grid is switched on, and the "create backup" is also turned on. I
normally have both of these options turned off when I save files, so
is the new version not honouring the preferences within the file?

Thorsten - just found a new bug! If I choose the "Preferences" item
in the "CADintosh" menu the outline of the prefeence window appears
for a few moments, with no contents, then I get a message "CADintosh
unexpectedly quit".

I forgot to mention my setup in the message I posted earlier:

Ti PowerBook G4, 1GHz, 1GB RAM, Mac OS 10.4.11

Let me know if you want copies of any logs etc.

I also have:

V6.0.1 X PowerPC (Universal Binary)

CADintosh X V6.0.1

CADintosh X V5.5.3

installed and all these open the preferences window OK.

I have the feeling that the preferences are stored in a different
place between v5 & v6 so mabe different settings can appear in each
of those.

Thorsten - I guess I should have mentioned this sooner (and I think
maybe I did in the past) so it's probably too late to do anything
about it now, especially as it involves fairly major conceptual ideas.

However, maybe you can take note for the future.

The preferences seem to be a bit spread about in several places.

In the CADintosh menu there are preferences which apply throughout
the application.

In the Edit menu there are backup prefrences which apply only to the
current file.

In the Options menu there are many things which apply only to the current file.

I am happy with the concept that application preferences and file
preferences are separate, but I think it would be useful to have all
the file preferences in one menu. I often forget to turn off the
"make .BAK file" option becuase it's in a different place to all the
other file preferences.

I also think that the display option for the cross-hairs or the
(horrible, disembodied) finger ought to be an application preference,
not a file preference.

There's probably an argument for putting the backup option in the
application preferences too - if the user is always having to change
certain file options on every new file, then they should be in the
application preferences.

It would be interesting to know if anyone else here has any views on the above.

of "sheets" - any reason for that? I don't really use them - that's
why it's taken a long time for me to notice, but just wondering what
is happening - are they no longer needed?

Thorsten - I observe that the ellipse bug is still present.

I have uploaded a file ellipse_test01.CAD to the problems folder in
the Yahoo group to demonstrate what I mean.

The file is a 3-view of a cylinder that has a flat milled on one
side, and one end trimmed at an angle. I have not found it possible
to draw the part-ellipse correctly for the side view. If you or
anyone else can tell me how it can be done, I would be grateful!

I think I noticed this effect when I first opened
X (either v5 or v6) files using the UB version.

I've found what I think is a v5 file, and tried
opening it and saving it with several CADintosh
versions.

6x respects the original preferences of the v5 file.


6UB does not respect the original preferences of the v5 file.

6UB does not respect the original preferences of the 6x file.


6.1 beta does not respect the original preferences of the v5 file.

6.1 beta does not respect the preferences of the 6x file.

6.1 beta respects the preferences of the 6UB file.


I note that the files where the preferences are
not respected by the UB & beta versions are those
whose finder icons are the generic type, but they
do respect the preferences of those which show a
preview of the drawing.

Thorsten - thanks, but how do we access those sheets (now, I see,
called pages)?

There doesn't seem to be a way to open a page directly from within CADintosh.

Obviously one can use the Finder context menu to see the package
contents and double-click on a page, but that's not very convenient.

Incidentally, having tried it, I note that the double-click causes a
copy of the page to be generated within the folder, and that is what
actually opens. Is that the intended behaviour?
