Brain cam too big

Post by deroseje » Sat Jan 30, 2016 2:12 am

Hi all,

I've got Norman's brain cup and I purchased a cam (I think a b9 creations cam) from Craig.  As you can see in the pic, the cam does not fit inside the cam hole in Norm's cup.  Has anyone experienced this?  Do you use a high grit sandpaper to make it fit?  Do Norm's cams fit?

Thanks!

I would take it to a machine shop and have the brain cam skimmed on a lathe.  It would only take a minute and wouldn't cost much.  Take the brain cup along to test fit.

Good day!
I am inclined with Steve's reply. Although you could open the size of the cup, you need to make sure it opens just the right amou t so the walls can still serve as an alighnment. The best way dor me as Steve mentioned is take both parts to a machine shop and have the cam reduced as needed. This will assure it won't "wobble" side to side thus having the perfect rotacion for the crown.
If you are good with tools then by now you know what to do :). As for me, I know my tool skills and will still take it to a machine shop to get the right amount shaved off. :)
You asked if Norman's cam fits Norman's cup. Although it sounds like it should, I can confirm with the one I already have from him it is a perfect fit (and in the process of getting a second combo set dron him:) ).
Hopefully the replies helps out, but if not... "Never fear, We are here!" :)

Hi Jeff,

Mike got his cams from the same source as Norman, and what I just found out recently was that there was a bad batch of cams made. The shaft that goes into the brain cup was incorrectly machined to exactly the same size as the hole, but should have been cut slightly smaller.

The good news is it can be fixed, and I will take care of that for you. I wouldn't recommend trying this yourself. As I've mentioned before, Delrin is an extremely dense material and much harder to machine than you might think. I'll contact you off list to get that done.

Trust me, that will not work. Delrin is much to dense. I'm telling you, it is like plastic stainless steel!

Hello Craig,

Hey, I like that, " Plastic Stainless Steel ". That name really gets the point across. That reminds me of a chemical I was told about, " Methyl Ethyl Bad Stuff ".

thanks,

David M
