Hey guys:   Thanks for checking this out for me. Just happened to see this on youtube. I really thought someone was in the robot with the bubble off to show electronics so your really think there was no one in there.   For sure, if any one can get in touch with him. I think you may be on the right track on how it works.   Thanks,   Victor B9-0082     -----Original Message-----

He never said why but that if I wanted to know how, I wasn t allowed to tell. Maybe he thought maybe he could make some money someday off of it, he did say that he was working and saving to come to America some day.   Jim   From: B9Builders@yahoogroups.com [B9Builders@yahoogroups.com?]

He (then) lived in Rio de Janeiro and was not a member of the club, although I did try to get him to join. As for his arms he told me the secret and I was totally surprised at the simplicity and genius of his design. I even built a set but never got a chance to mount them on my robot. He also asked me not to tell anyone how he did it. Derval used to have another video where his robot was waving his arms to a song by Julio Iglesias called vous les femmes. it was pretty cool to watch the robot dance while singing in Spanish.   Jim   From: B9Builders@yahoogroups.com [B9Builders@yahoogroups.com]

Yeah the motors that I mentioned earlier would be reverseable so you can make the tube inside spin back and forth giving the arms extra movement. There's probably some kind of lazy susan type of thing at the end of the tube where it connects to the wrists so the wrists stays in one place and doesn't spin when the tube does. Maybe the wrists are weighted on one side so the claws stay upright. I don't know. I can barely make a bowl of cereal in the morning! Haha!   -Roy

I thought it was simply a bent tube as well - but the arms seem to flex/straighten a bit. It's probably one of those things that we'll slap our foreheads and say "DOH!" if/when we figure it out.

I thought they were opening and closing also but they actually aren't. It's just the way the claws look at certain angles.   -Roy

Some cool news about this!!!

I went to Derval's YouTube page, where it said "Find me on FaceBook", so I (well, my cat, actually) sent him a message saying how we were all fascinated with the arm mechanism. I asked if he'd be willing to share the construction, and here's the reply I got:

"... I never gave much thought to my own videos on youtube. I did not see the comments. Before that, I answered some messages and sent some drawings. I did not speak English at the time., but now I understand everything I read, but I have a little difficulty writing in your language...

I will disassemble an arm and record a short video showing how it works, so it will be much easier to understand. Today I cleaned the dust and did some tests. I'll record a video on Friday. Do not worry, I'll let you know as soon as posting the video. Ciao"

How cool is that!

I'm glad I could finally give something back to the club, even if it's something small. :)

Soon as I have a video link, I'll post it.
