Hey guys,

I'm hoping someone out there can lend some advice...

I just got some neon for my B9 and wanted to do a bench test without the
sound interface connected.

So, I hooked up my 12v power supply to the Tech 22 Transformer (+ to +
and then - to -), and the top thick output wire from the Tech 22 to a
zener diode to the top neon wires. I then connected the bottom output
thick wire from the Tech 22 transformer to another zener diode to the
bottom neon wires. I connected the two middle neon wires together. I
made sure the zener diodes were facing the correct way. I turned on my
power supply -- nothing is lighting up. I even adjusted the little
screw on the Tech 22 transformer (supposed to control brightness) to see
if maybe it was all the way down. Still, nothing.

Could I have a dead Tech 22 transformer?

I did try to hook a multimeter up to it to test AC voltage, but my
multimeter isn't very good. Still, nothing showed up as voltage coming out.

Any ideas?

Does the sound interface have to be connected?

Does the orange wire coming from the Tech 22 transformer need to be
connected to SOMETHING to do a bench test without the sound interface?
(I can't imaging it does, but maybe I'm missing something).

Please help!!!

What are you doing with the control wire that actually controls it turning on and off?

You need to tie that orange wire to the + line to get it to turn on. Read the manual!

Oh, and I don't mean to lecture, but this transformer is capable of severe injury or death. Hooking a typical voltmeter across the leads, if it was on, would result in the instant death of that meter.

Hey Vic,
Just wanted to shout out to thank you for the dvd I received today. Haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but I'm sure it will be great and the artwork on the cover is fantastic. It was really sooo nice of you to send these out. I'm really glad I got a chance to meet you and so many of the other guys at chiller.
